The owner of Texas Capital Photography,
Angelina Daves
has been photographing professionally for over 10 years. She received a BFA, in
Studio Art from UT Austin. There she trained in Fine Art Photography and Oil
painting. At UT Angelina worked closely with and was mentored by Fine Artists
Troy Brauntuch, Peter Saul & Lawrence McFarland. She has exhibited photos both
locally and internationally, traveling to locations such as Mexico City and
Havana, Cuba for exhibitions. In 1999, she met and befriended the celebrated
poet and human rights activist Raul R. Salinas. Salinas introduced her to Red
Salmon Arts, a Native American/Chicano based cultural arts organization founded
by Salinas. The writers, visual artists & historians that Angelina met through
the organization inspired her to start spending less time in the studio and more
time out in the world photographing her experiences. In 2006, Angelina began
collaborating with fellow photographer Matt Archer. Archer, a photojournalist,
furthered her technical education in editorial photography. Angelina is
currently working on her first book with Irene Silva and Moises Lara titled “IYOLLO:
Texas Chicana and Chicano Poets on Healing”.

Visual art has been an
important part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mother is a gifted
painter. She began teaching me to draw and paint still life and people at the
age of seven. That same year my father began taking me on annual trips across
country where we visited world class museums like the MET and MOMA.
My parents both love the late 19th and early 20th century
Impressionist painters. This early exposure to these great works of art and
techniques still impacts my studio and editorial photography today.”
“I
discovered my love of photography at nineteen years old while in art school
studying drawing and painting. I borrowed a friend’s manual 35mm camera and a
light meter. Then spent an entire day walking around the city photographing
different people and scenes that I encountered; I was hooked right from that
day.”
